DON'T CRAP AN APPLE, STAN AGAINST EVIL SEASON 3 ANNOUNCED!
Cry to the heavens YAS!!
After a whirlwind couple days in Hollywood, some more fabulous news fell into my inbox this past Friday. IFC's Stan Against Evil has just announced season 3! Th series created be Dana Gould (the Simpsons) tells the comical tales of John C. McGinley(Scrubs) who plays the titular Stan, retired sheriff of Willards Mill, and Janet Varney as she portrays his replacement Evie Barret as they try to battle a 3000 year old curse. When last we left the Willards Mill gang Stan had gotten back his wife Claire, but at what cost? All is not well as Evie and Stan must find a while to close the portal from the 17th century that accidentally opened at the end of season 2.
I was speaking with Dana Gould last summer at SDCC, and was discussing his involvement with the creature design process and the importance of practical effects when I asked him,
ME:The creature and the effect design. I really enjoy the practical effects. Hard camera effects. How much are you involved with the design of those? Do you say, “I want a were-pony,” and then they bring you drawings?
DANA:"That’s basically it. Our effects crew, Autonomous Effects, we’re all the same person. We all grew up watching Creature Features. We all would be here at Comic Con if we weren’t here for work. We’d be here for fun. We go to Monsterpalooza. We’re all the same guys. I can say, the reason the monsters are practical is that’s the fun part, is making the monster. We can get really obscure. It should have an ‘It Conquered the World’ kind of feel to it, and they know what I’m talking about. I think that the reason the show works is because the effects of by and large, practical with digital clean up, because your eye will tell you. Your eye always knows, with very few exceptions. You always know. For comedy to work, comedy and horror have to co-exist. Laughing and screaming are cousins. They’re both involuntary reflexes that release tension. You have to be very careful because if I have a great digital creature, but you know in your guts that it’s digital, you can’t be funny with it because now you’re out of reality and comedy works in reality. To me, all the air goes out of the balloon. The reason American Werewolf in London works, the reason John Carpenter’s The Thing still works is because all that stuff is really there and your eye doesn’t lie."........"You don’t need a ton of money to make people laugh and you don’t need a ton of money to scare people. You can tell a big story on a small canvas. That’s what we try to do."

Season 3 To Return this Fall with More Hilarious Hauntings and Spooktacular Scares
LOS ANGELES – January 12, 2018 – IFC announced today that horror-comedy series Stan Against Evil has been picked up for a third season slated to air in Fall 2018. Created by Dana Gould (The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation) and starring John C. McGinley (Scrubs) and Janet Varney (You’re the Worst), Stan Against Evil has grown its dedicated fan base since originally debuting in 2016, with The New York Times calling it a “gruesome, deadpan delight.” Season 2 concluded in November 2017 with Stan Miller (McGinley) and Sheriff Evie Barret (Varney) accidentally opening a portal into the past, allowing the 17th century demons to create new mayhem in their quaint town of Willard’s Mill.
Stan Against Evil follows Stan Miller, the perpetually disgruntled former sheriff of a small New England town, and Evie Barret, his younger, more spirited successor, and how the two are forced into an unlikely alliance upon realizing their sleepy little town is the subject of a 300-year-old demonic curse. Willard's Mill, it turns out, was the sight of a massive 17th century witch burning and as such, Stan and Evie are forced into battle against demons, witches, haunted ponies, giant piglets, evil babies, you name it, all while trying to bridge their chasm-wide personal differences.
Stan Against Evil is created, written and executive produced by Dana Gould, with Tom Lassally (Silicon Valley) also serving as executive producer. RadicalMedia (My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, MARS) produces the series with Frank Scherma and Justin Wilkes executive producing. Star John C. McGinley also serves as a producer. Deborah Baker Jr. and Nate Mooney co-star.
