JASON SPISAK TALKS "BATMAN: HUSH" AND MORE! (VIDEO)

JASON SPISAK TALKS "BATMAN: HUSH" AND MORE! (VIDEO)

As previously mentioned, I have spent the last few weeks coming down of the high that the world knows as San Diego Comic Con 2019. I was there, once again, on assignment from Bleeding Cool, and I had the chance to chat with the cast and crew of Batman: Hush. Now that Bleeding Cool has had some time to rake in all the traffic and clicks, I thought I might post my stories here. As I recall, it was Friday at SDCC 2019 and the pressroom was packed to the gills with journalists waiting to chat with the stars and producers of Batman: Hush. The world premier was just 20 minutes away as the maniacal  voice of the Joker, Jason Spisak (Young Justice, Star Wars: The Clone Wars), took a seat to share his thoughts on his version of the Clown Prince of Crime. Looking very sharp in a tailored shirt and vest combo Jason quickly rifles thru a couple voices while getting comfortable at the table.

Vocal talents such as Kevin Micheal Richardson and Mark Hamill have left their indelible mark on the character, and have set a pretty high bar for the role, With some huge clown shoes (pun intended) to fill. I asked Spisak how he is separating his take on the Harlequin of Hate?

I asked them , do you  want something along the ark Hamill line, what are we doing?’ and they went “nope, we just want you to create an iconic/ your own Joker voice.  First off I said ‘That’s a huge honor. Let me take a couple drinks. It was a huge compliment, when they say that. Because ...I always hear a voice, that Joker has, in my head when I am reading the comics. Because I had a Joker voice in my head before Mark Hamill ever did the Joker, so I just wanted to share that (voice) with every DC fan. And that's kind of what this is. It’s just who I feel the Joker should be. He’s kind of a combination - you’ll hear lots of different stuff that sounds kinda like stuff, but it’s it own thing.

Most Bat- Fans are very familiar with the original story, written by Jeph Loeb, penciled by Jim Lee, inked by Scott Williams, and colored by Alex Sinclair, so I wanted to know what can we expect from this version of Batman: Hush and the Joker?

Expect the unexpected. It’s a little bit of a different take on- normally you see Joker as masterminding the whole thing, or completely sociopath, or whatever. In this comic, he's a little bit caught off guard . The very first time he meets Batman it’s a strange moment, and the audience doesn't know who Hush is, at that time. Joker is in an incredibly, I’m not going to call it vulnerable, but just sort of  awkward place you don't really get to see him inhabit very often and I really enjoyed playing that. (Because) you don't get to see him play those notes that often. You get t o see him being the virtuoso of violence. Or you’re getting to see him full on sociopath, or throwing out one liners and jokes. None of that happens right when you first see the Joker in this movie. None of it. It’s just a different type thing. You think it’s going to be one thing, and all of a sudden it’s not.

There is a little more in the A/V presentation below, but it may be a might SPOILERY if you have not seen Batman: Hush, so beware. It is an incredible treat to watch Jason seamlessly switch  thru voices as he tries to entertain the weary journalists at our table.
