Good Morning Citizens! First thing today is the news hot off the presses from my good pals over at Netflix about what is sure to be my newest binge. The new animated comedy series Hoops, starring Jake Johnson premieres Friday, August 21, 2020 on Netflix.

Hoops is the hilarious animated comedy sitcom that centers on a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach (Jake Johnson) who thinks turning around his god awful team will take him to the “big leagues” and turn his miserable life around. 

Just this morning Netflix released a new trailer and announced that the voice cast of Hoops has just gotten even better! The new cast includes the familiar voices of Jake Johnson’s New Girl costars Max Greenfield, Damon Wayans Jr. and Hannah Simone along with Guy Fieri, Will Forte, Nick Swardson, Sam Richardson, W. Earl Brown and Steve Berg.

Created by Ben Hoffman (Archer, New Girl) Hoops stars Jake Johnson (New Girl, Let’s Be Cops) as Coach Ben Hopkins. Ben is a pathetic, angry, foul-mouthed coach desperate to prove himself, but always looking for an easy way to get the job done. He’s shameless and selfish, and given the opportunity to do the right thing, he fails most of the time. 

Rob Riggle (Hangover, 21 Jumpstreet) lends his velvety pipes as Barry Hopkins, Ben’s father. A former pro athlete / Current steakhouse owner. Barry is pretty rough his son, has no respect him, but still wants the best for him. 

Natasha Leggero (Brickleberry, Dice)voices Shannon, Ben’s estranged wife. In the past she has been impulsive and known for rash decisions, but she straightening up her life and focusing on making her horse farm a success. 

Ron Funches (Trolls, Harley Quinn) lends his gentle timber to Ron, Lenwood High Basketball’s Assistant Coach and Ben’s best friend. Considerate, quiet and patient, he’s absolutely nothing like Ben.

Cleo King (Hangover, Pineapple Express) plays Ben’s boss Opal. She is the salty Principal of Lenwood High who hates her job and doesn’t care who knows it. Nearly as foul-mouthed as Ben, she’s struggles finding love, and is very superstitious.

Hoops is created by Ben Hoffman. Hoffman, Johnson, Seth Cohen, M. Dickson, Phil Lord and Chris Miller serve as executive producers. Hoops is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and animated by Bento Box.
