DIRECTOR ALEXANDRE O. PHILIPPE DISCUSSES WILLIAM SHATNER

William Shatner: You Can Call Me Bill is touted as an intimate portrait of William Shatner's personal journey over nine decades on this Earth. Director Alexandre O. Philippe (The People vs. George Lucas, Lynch/Oz) manages to strip away all the masks he has worn to embody countless characters and reveals the man behind it all. The documentary from Legion M, and the acclaimed documentary team at Exhibit A Pictures, follows Shatner as he recounts his personal journey over nine decades on Earth,

From a terrified airplane passenger, make-believe starship captain, Police Sergent, Boston Lawyer, to a real-life rocketman, Shatner has led one of the most unique and best-lived lives on the planet, and while the actor may be recognizable around the globe, Philippe manages to discover that the man behind the roles is even more interesting than the iconic characters he's played.

Last summer at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 Retro Cool Nerd had the chance to chat with Philippe as he shared his insight and revelations from working closely with the iconic actor. In adition to noting that the actor connects with his fans in a very different way than former documentary focus George Lucas, the director learned thoughtout the process of making William Shatner: You Can Call Me Bill that Shatner is “…an incredible, incredibly dedicated man.”
